Full-time workers spend at least 35% of their waking life working, with some people topping more than 60%. So if you’re too busy to visit your folks, have them visit you…at work! By experiencing how we make our living, our elders will see a return on their sacrifices. We’ll pick up your elders with one of our limos, take them to your office so you can show them your work world, and treat them like the star that they are! We are flexible with the length and scope of your work tour, and there are options for lunch or dinner. By filming the experience, you can watch them in the comforts of your own home on dvd. or share it online. Many people in their prime struggle to connect and share with their elders. First, most people over 65 are not online, so everything on the internet is inaccessible. Secondly, our elders from previous generations have a different worldview than people from the same generation. How can we understand each other when we don’t live in the same world? People are separated and shaped by their experiences, and time ultimately affects our physical and mental state. As our elders remain both technologically and generationally un-connected to the world of youth, we become increasingly disconnected to our heritage. The G.A.P.’s mission is to empower the elderly so that they can continue changing the world. We will hold skill sharing workshops on web-surfing, film-making, and employ the retired (on a part-time basis) to keep their minds active and their bank accounts afloat. They could work on the field and help with the shoot, or work from home on administration and other tasks. Their wealth of experience is so priceless yet overlooked. Instead of taking our seniors for granted, take them to work…for a G.A.P. Day!
Global CIRCLE (Communities that inspire, respect, create, live and empower) is a social business committed to serving youth and adults in pursuing adventure, community engagement and social justice, locally and globally, through travel experiences. We intend to sell travel packages to adults. Revenue made from the cost of the trips will go towards funding skill building trips for youth. Our mission is to provide a unique cross-cultural experience for youth living in the Greater Toronto Area who face intersecting oppressions. The trip for youth will consist of: community building, education and empowerment. We seek to foster a sense of local and global responsibility for youth and adults around the world through equitable and holistic education. We aim to facilitate the critical engagement of all members by offering traveling experiences that respect and learn from glo(cal) (global and local) communities. Our mission is to highlight the skills and strengths of communities through glo(cal) activism and the celebration of social agents of change. Global CIRCLE will be officially leading its first trip to Kenya in July 2012. The 14-day trip will involve experiencing the majestic wildlife, visiting local schools, white water rafting and sight seeing. Initially our trips will be run out of the Greater Toronto Area, however, can be expanded to other parts of Canada and eventually move to other parts of the world.
A small enterprise that has just started up. We believe that every kid and student (and adults) have the ability to be creative, and can go beyond their wildest expectations if given the opportunity-whether that be through sport, arts/crafts, video gaming, digital media, social networking, etc. We appreciate any feedback and support! Good luck everyone!
